The capital of the Loon Clan, Aaltatara, is home to about 4,500 people in the winter months; about two thirds of that in the warmer months, when the tribespeople spread out to hunt in the forest and fish on the lake.
The harbor is set deep into protective rocks, and ringed by granite towers and walls more reminiscent of Nordic fortifications than the more transitory constructions of the Ojibwe clans.
The relatively urban zone of Aaltatara has come under the sway of the Striped Cloud Woman / Gray Owl faction of the Loon Clan civil war, with most of the smaller towns and rural areas clinging to the band led by Little Loon.
