The birchbark scrolls of the Ojibwe clans are among the most prized items on the Lake. They fulfifll a number of different purposes, sometimes accomplishing two or more per scroll -
They record known history
They hold spells, sometimes rare or unique spells
They hold blessings or curses that affect the reader of the scroll
They contain herbal formulae for potions, poisons, and curatives
They are maps to the Lake and/or the Underdark
They are treaties or less binding but still official communications between clans and/or individuals
The theft or willful destruction of birchbark scrolls is one of the most serious crimes a soul can commit, and wars have been started and fought over them.
